Do you have a cluttered desk or project work area? If so, then you may want to consider purchasing a magnifier desk lamp to help cope with some of the frustrations you are feeling. Having items such as papers, pens and pencils, notebooks, folders, and textbooks keeps you feeling uptight, not allowing you to completely relax. This situation makes for a bad working environment, but can easily be remedied by creating more space to work. Getting rid of your bulky desk lamp, and being able to see your work better at the same time is possible with a magnifying desk lamp.

With smaller projects, you really need as much space as you can get. Because you are dealing with smaller objects, you need to be able to see them all clearly, without having to dodge your shadow because of the poor lighting position. Older style lamps create shadows which keep you from being able to see clearly, while also straining your eyes at the same time. The magnifying lens on these types of lamps helps you to get a clear picture of what you are doing, and avoid creating any shadows that can cause your eyes to hurt at the end of the day.

Most times, magnifying desk lamps are held to the desk with a clamping system. The clamp helps to keep the entire lamp out of your way while you are working. A flexible arm will help you position the lens in whatever direction you need it, so depending on what sitting position is comfortable, you will still have adequate lighting. Not having to deal with the large lamp base means that you also have another square foot, if not more, of work area that would be taken up otherwise. (You do not have to worry about the clamping device damaging your desk, as most manufacturers include soft rubber pads that fit between the clamp and wood. If you have a higher end, or hand built desk, you can lay your fears to rest.)

If you need more space on your work desk, or possibly even need the lens to help you see smaller projects easier, you should definitely consider the benefits of a magnifier desk lamp. These lamps are incredibly cost efficient, and when you think about not having to deal with eye strain, or the frustrations of having a lack of space to work. The clamp style on the lamps secures it tightly to your desk helping to clear up your clutter, while the bright white light and magnifying lens take care of any symptoms of poor lighting that you may have been feeling.

Whether you have thought about it, or not, your swing arm floor lamp can be quite hazardous. Most times, swing arm floor lamps are constructed of metal, which creates hot spots that could present certain risks to your family or home. The articulating arm can also cause problems if you are not using the lamp properly. Your common sense will usually take over, but every year there are cases of accidents with these types of lights. In order to avoid the same situations, consider how a aluminum or brass swing arm floor lamp could possibly injure you or your family.

Depending on how much you paid for your floor lamp, and what type of lighting is utilized, the metal housing around the bulb can reach very high temperatures. When someone attempts to reposition the lamp, this will usually be one of the first places they will grab. Some manufacturers have noticed the safety concerns and taken proper actions to insulate the housing, which keeps you from being burned. However, there are still some lamps for sale that do not have enough insulation, which means that you could be burned when you touch the light bulb housing.

Another scenario that lends itself to easily being burned is when the lamp is over extended. Having an articulating arm means that you should be able to reposition the light into the perfect angle, but you should know the limits. Generally, a heavier base on the lamp will allow you to extend the light out further, and vice verse, where you should be concerned when the lamp is lightweight. As you extend the light housing further away from the base, the weight on the end (near the light bulb) begins increasing exponentially. All it takes is a small bump, or stiff breeze to knock the lamp over at this point, causing a potential fire hazard.

Remember that the light bulbs inside of swing arm floor lamps get incredibly hot. Depending how how new your floor lamp is, as well as what material it was built out of, you should remain safe and only grab around the main lamp arm. Keeping your hands away from the light bulb housing is the easiest way to ensure that you or your family members do not end up being burned. Also, remember to always turn floor lamps off before you to go sleep, to avoid a potential fire hazard if the lamp should be knocked over throughout the night.

Instead of purchasing new art deco table lamps, have you considered designing your own? If you are able to track down some glass lamp shades, you can easily turn them into some of the most elegant, hand designed Tiffany style art deco lamps.

Instead of purchasing new art deco table lamps, have you considered designing your own? If you are able to track down some glass lamp shades, you can easily turn them into some of the most elegant, hand designed Tiffany style art deco lamps. With a bit of planning, and some artistic creation, you can have truly one-of-a-kind lamp shades that match your decor perfectly. The best part about the project, is that it can be completed for less than $20 if you do it right.

Step 1: Clean the inside of your lamp shade.

You are going to need to go over the glass with an alcohol based cleaner to remove any grease or dirt buildup. The types of paints that you are going to use will not adhere to the glass properly if the glass has a film on it. To ensure the project lasts for many years, spend plenty of time preparing for the project.

Step 2: Get your design scaled down.

Take the design that you have created to a print shop, and have it scaled down. Make sure that it is small enough to transfer onto the glass, and that it is not so rich in detail that you will have a hard time covering it properly. Simple designs are usually easier to work with.

Step 3: Transfer the design onto the glass lamp shade.

Once you receive the scaled design, you need to transfer it to the glass. Using a permanent or fabric marker, outline the design onto the glass. Take your time, as these black marks will show through when you place the shade back onto the lamp. Once you finish, allow them to dry overnight. After the marker has dried properly, you should apply a bead of silicone or other removable glue onto the lines, unless you are an accurate painter.

Step 4: Cover the art deco table lamp design using window paint.

Apply different colors and patterns of window paint to each section of your design. As always, take your time, ensuring that each section looks even, compared against the rest. Once the paint has had a few days to cure, you will need to remove the silicone glue.

Step 5: Examine the shade, and install it onto the lamp.

Peel off the glue lines once the paint has adhered to the glass. You need to ensure that you have removed every piece of glue, to avoid having it melt when you reinstall the shade. If your art deco lamp shade has dried properly, and you have removed all of the glue, reinstall it onto the lamp and turn on the light. You should be able to begin enjoying the fruits of your labor!

When you need to install some lighting in your closet, you can either choose to install battery operated lamps that can be moved around, or you can hard wire the closet light. Installing battery operated lamps may be more efficient because you are able to move the lights around to suit your needs, but they also require you to replace the batteries. A hard wired light, on the other hand, requires you to mount the light to your drywall, and run electrical wires which, if you are not experienced, could require you to call a contractor to have the project completed.

Step 1: Locate a stud in the wall, usually on the inside, above the closet door. You are going to have to mount the light bracket to this stud. When you are sure that you’ve located one, and have lined up the mounting box, you will need to mark the hole that you are going to cut.

Step 2: Cut away the outline using a drywall saw, making sure that you are not going to clip any wires that may already be in the wall. The template you outlined should pop out of the wall, leaving you a space to install the closet lighting bracket.

Step 3: Push the bracket into the hole you’ve created, and using a power drill with wood screws, fasten the bracket to the freshly exposed 2″x4″ stud. Make sure that the face of the bracket is flush with the outside edge of the drywall, to ensure that you do not have a gap between the wall and fixture.

Step 4: Now run your wire from the breaker panel, or junction box down into the closet opening. You may have to drill through the double plate for the wall in your attic, so be careful that you do not hit any wires. Push the wire out through the bracket.

Step 5: Attach the closet lights fixture to the wire, making sure that you properly fasten wire nuts to protect the connection. Once finished, install the fixture onto the bracket that you have created. If you are looking for a seamless installation, you can run a fine bead of caulk around the base of the fixture and drywall.

Step 6: If you are installing an automatic closet light, you will need to install the sensor. You want to make sure that the sensor is positioned so that the doors movement will cause the light to go on, or off, depending on the situation. When the sensor is installed backwards, you’ll be able to quickly tell what you’ve done wrong.

With some creative thinking, you can make use of a small table lamp practically anywhere you need extra lighting. Some of the better places homeowners have found to utilize smaller lamps is in the kitchen, bathroom, and in your bedroom for late night reading. If you are purchasing some new small table lamps, or even trying to figure out what to do with your old ones, here are a few ideas to get you going.

Idea #1 – Reading Recipes Inside Your Kitchen

How does the lighting in your kitchen stand up for entertaining your guests and family? What about for reading small print found in most recipe books? When you were planning the design, you may have thought about entertainment for the lighting, but most people don’t think about having to read while they are in the kitchen. Placing a small table lamp on your counter can help provide focused light so you can read the recipes, without having to redo your entire kitchen lighting design.

Idea #2 – Inside Your Bathroom To Help Read Medications

When you are taking your medications in the morning, or later at night, you usually do not have your glasses on. Even if you are able to tell the difference between which prescriptions you’re taking, accidents do happen. Instead of having to search for your glasses, or risk taking the wrong medicine, you can place a small table lamp above the sink, or on your bathroom vanity to help read the labels.

Idea #3 – Above Your Headboard For Late Night Reading

As you lay in bed and read at night, how often do you deal with minor eye pain and discomfort? These symptoms are caused by poor lighting conditions, and can easily be remedied by using a small table lamp. Placing the lamp above your headboard, or on your nightstand will help you brighten your area, without bothering your partner. You can wake up refreshed, rather than dealing with a headache because you stayed up too late reading a good book.

There are quite a few uses for small table lamps. If you take some time to think about where you need extra lighting, but are limited on space, you can probably find even more ways to utilize these smaller lamps.

You have probably already noticed while shopping, that the prices for ceramic table lamps are incredibly cheap. Even though they may not have the substantial price tags of higher end lamps, a ceramic table lamp is usually not a low quality product. There are quite a few factors that go into helping ceramic lamps stay so cheap, mainly because of the location they are built. If you were worried about purchasing low quality lamps that would break if they ever fell to the floor, you shouldn’t worry so much. Simple sophistication can be had for a very low cost, especially when you spend time shopping around for the best prices.

Ceramic table lamps are often manufactured in China, which helps to keep their production costs incredibly low. The lower cost of materials, and wages helps you save money, but doesn’t necessarily mean that the lamps are low quality, and you have to worry about them breaking if they ever fall off the table. Most times, you can find a high quality ceramic lamp between $5 and $40. If you are having trouble finding the right style, just keep shopping. There are a large number of vendors that carry different designs of lamps, so you are bound to find one you are looking for.

Not all of the lamps are cheaply priced, however. Some designers put their heart and soul into the lamps, and intend for them to be displayed as works of art. When you want a custom designed lamp, and have the money to spend, you can find a designer to look at your decor, and work on building you a set of lamps by hand. These lamps will typically boast hefty price tags, sometimes upwards of $1,000 or more, depending on how elaborate you require the design to be.

Depending on your situation, whether you are simply replacing a lamp in the living room, or looking to add a new piece of art to your home, your costs are going to vary greatly. Replacing a lamp can be as cheap as $5 to $10, while adding a custom designed piece of art can run you substantially more. Even though the price tags may be lower with ceramic table lamps than other styles, it is not because they are low quality. Because there are so many vendors, competition helps pass the savings on to you, without having to skimp on putting out a quality product.

Choosing the perfect ceramic table lamp really comes down to two key decisions. Do you want the lamp to match your decor? Or would you rather the lamp stand out against your decor? Try breaking the decision down into smaller chunks, and digesting those to help with your final decision.

Choosing the perfect ceramic table lamp really comes down to two key decisions. Do you want the lamp to match your decor? Or would you rather the lamp stand out against your decor? If you choose to match the lamp to your current motif, you may have issues choosing the right style, because there are so many lamps that could possibly work. When you love all of the ceramic table lamps that you see, how can you pick just one set? Try breaking the decision down into smaller chunks, and digesting those to help with your final decision.

The color choices you have comes down to whether or not you want the lamps to blend in, or stand out. If you want the lights to match your current decor, without over powering other parts of your design, you are going to have a much tougher time, than if you were to choose colors that would stand out against your design. Every manufacturer has a wide palette of colors they utilize, which means that there are endless color combinations. The prices on these lamps range from around $5 a piece, up to $500 for designer options, so you don’t necessarily have to worry about your budget, but you will want to make sure you can reference your current design.

Try to pick one or two colors that are the brightest in your design, and then find one or two softer colors. Keep these on a swatch next to you while you are shopping, to help make your purchase a lot easier. Being able to look at the swatch will keep you from having to visualize the lamp inside your living area, but instead, allow you to compare the colors you have to work with against the lamps you are viewing.

You also need to consider the edges of your design. Look around at your project, design, or living area, and determine if there are soft edges, or more harsh, rough edges on your furniture and decorations. If the design is more jagged in appearance, you may want to purchase lamp shades that match. Again, it depends whether or not you are trying to match the design, or make the lamps stand out, but in designs with rough edges, you will want to consider conical, or triangular shaped shades. For designs with softer, rounder edges, drum style ceramic lamp shades are excellent choices.

However, there are quite a few different styles of lights that are perfect for use in your closet, and do not require an electrical contractor to come out. Your choices come down to two main styles of closet light. Bar lamps, or circular lamps. Your final decision on which type to purchase comes down to your current situation, and how you intend to install the light.

When you do not want to have an electrical contractor install the new lighting, what options do you have? You can purchase battery operated closet lights that incredibly efficient, even though they are running off battery power. Newer technology in different types of bulbs has made it possible to light your entire closet, while running on a few batteries, and not have to worry about the lights going dim after a few minutes of use. Because they are battery powered, you are also able to position the lamp wherever you need light.

Before you buy a new lamp though, you need to think about which style is perfect in certain types of closets. If you have a walk-in closet, for instance, that has clothes surrounding every wall but the doorway, you may find it difficult to see on the floor level. You can purchase a circular, touch style battery operated closet lamp that can be placed on the inside of your closet door. When you open the door, even if your hands are full, you can give the light a small tap with your foot, and gain access to the darker areas of your closet. It may not be a fully-automatic closet light, but it is close enough to satisfy most homeowners.

However, if you have ceiling room available, and the light projected from your bedroom area is not enough to illuminate your closet, then you may want to install bar lights, with LED bulbs. Bar closet lights can be placed on the ceiling, the back wall of your closet, above your door, or even horizontally underneath your clothes, to help you see the floor. The LED bulbs in these types of lights are much brighter than the incandescent or fluorescent bulbs you will find in circular tap lights.

Reading at night while laying in bed is a favorite pastime for many people, but what they are not thinking about, is that the poor lighting situation they are in could be causing severe damage to their eyes. Low lighting conditions cause your eyes to lose focus on the pages, which often times means that you end up with headaches the next day, and get uncomfortable while you are reading. Having a lamp on your headboard can alleviate these symptoms. Through key placement of a headboard lamp, you can read into the night, without having to worry about getting a headache in the morning.

If you do think you could benefit from adding a headboard reading lamp, you will be happy to know that it doesn’t matter what style bedroom suit you may currently have, manufacturers have made sure that their designs suit all tastes and decor. Previously, unless you wanted to pay substantially more, you were typically stuck with a plain black or white lamp, with a bright white incandescent bulb. With newer technology though, stylish designs have become much more affordable, and the addition of LED light bulbs helps you to avoid the heat, and discomfort produced by incandescent lights.

You also do not have to worry about the mounting options that were included on older style headboard lamps. The older style lights would use a harsh pinching method, with stiff rubber feet to attach the lamp to your headboard. Over time, this harsh pinching action would actually cause damage to your headboard. However, on newer models, manufacturers have included softer clamps that do not damage the wood or soft metals on your headboard, but are still strong enough to hold the lamp.

Being able to move the light into the perfect position is one of the main reasons you should consider purchasing a headboard lamp. If you haven’t already, think about how often you feel the symptoms associated with poor lighting conditions, and then imagine a situation where you were not tossing, and turning, or dealing with eye strain and headaches. The decision should be fairly clear at that point. From here, all you have to do is find a lamp that matches your bedroom suit, and do away with your old lighting. Your nights of reading do not have to be plagued with discomfort, especially when you purchase an adjustable headboard lamp.

The lighting in your home, or next renovation project is crucial to any homemaker or designer. If you are not able to pull off the correct lighting angles, wattages, and styles, the project could actually end up looking more like a disaster area, rather than something you would be proud of. It is understandable that you wanted to install different styles of lights, but if there are still areas that need lighting, and you are unable to find the right type or style, you may want to consider an arco floor lamp. Arched lamps work well in many rooms of your house, and could be the missing link to help turn those dark, drab areas around.

When you were planning the lighting design, you were probably trying to create a unique ambiance that would reflect your own personal style. Some areas of your home may reflect your style wonderfully, however, as you turn to look around, you may notice dark areas that were not lit properly. Using low wattage bulbs to create a warmer glow also means that you have to sacrifice the total area that the light will cover. You don’t have to purchase more lamps to help light the area but, instead, buy an arch lamp that can be placed off to the side, without taking up even more room.

Some of the more common areas people have problems finding the right style of lighting for are over your dining room table, above luxurious paintings, or even spanned across your living room furniture. Most times, people will use accent lamps to project light onto the walls, but this makes it hard for you to get adequate lighting when you are eating dinner, or reading a book on your favorite chair. If your decor prevents you from being able to install a chandelier style lamp, or even end tables with lamps, purchasing an arco style floor lamp is the solution to your problems.

The flexible arched arm on arco floor lamps helps to position the light into the perfect angle. As mentioned, whether you are having problems highlighting a luxurious painting on the wall, or even brightening up the area where you intend to sit to eat dinner, or read at night, there are options for you. Increasing the lighting in your home, without having more fixtures or lamps sitting on tables is a possibility with Flos arco floor lamp.
