Indoor Lighting

wall lampIf you have what interior designers call hot spots in a room then you may want to brighten up those areas with a wall lamp. These lamps are great for filling in where recessed or track lighting are missing the mark for total lighting coverage in any room in your home. Wall lamps can look like miniature version of the lamps you have placed on either side of your couch sitting on end tables, or like the ones positioned on your nightstands in the bedroom. Do not worry about matching them to your current interior design as there is a plethora of them to choose from, and these lamps blend right in as if they were always there.

Home Or Office Wall Lamps

A swing arm wall lamp is a luxurious and effective addition next to your favorite reading chair, above a desk, or in lieu of using bedside lamps. When not in use you simply swing them back towards the wall and free up the space near you. Extra care is needed to install this type of lamp as the electrical wires will have to be hidden in the wall for a professionally installed look. There are some plug-in type lamps but really, who wants an exposed cord running up their wall.

The wall lamp arm should never have any pressure applied to it in a downward or upward motion as it is only built to handle its own weight. Usually this is not a replaceable part, the whole lamp would have to be taken down, and a new unit would have to be purchased. Nor should any items be hung from the lamp as heavy decorations may damage the pivotal arm too. Just use common sense and these lamps will last the lifetime of the home.

You can also choose a fixture with a longer wall lamp arm, some can extend up to three feet away from the base and is great for when working on a project and you need the light to placed over a certain area for better visibility. These may require extra reinforcement to the wall when the installation is being done. Usually for safety and long wear and tear factors this type of lamp will need to be installed by a stud in the wall as sheet rock will not be able handle the additional weight. Before making any final installation have someone hold the base against the wall, and from the wall lamps home position move it out to full the fully extended position to insure it will not be in the way of other items in the room.
